Kudu Threesome Thobolo Bush Lodge, Botswana
Image Name: Spiral Bachelors
(Classification: Tragelaphus Strepsiceros)
Thobolo Bush Lodge in northern Botswana is a popular overnight stop on the way to or from Savuti in the Chobe National. The roads getting there are grueling thick sand tracks, testing the wits of countless 4×4 drivers determined to make the crossing.
Late In the dry seasoned we bumped and grinded our way in, getting our fair dose of insanity.
Thobolo however, is a haven that rejuvenated both traveler and wildlife.
Here we witnessed some of the most incredible dust storms the landscape could conjure, baffling even the locals who had not seen the like for decades.
They came in mid morning’s generally as the heat grew in intensity forming massive spirals akin to twisting tornados. With incredible speed they engulfed everything in a vast swathe of dust.
Drama of any kind does of course enhance the pursuit of equally dramatic imagery, as the hours ticked passed I waited for a moment of gravitas and captured this Kudu Bull bachelor herd, negotiating the extreme conditions to quench long begotten thirsts.
This monochrome herd radiates a timeless calm — the spirit of Africa distilled into elemental purity. It’s an image of dignity through simplicity, where form and emptiness dance in quiet equilibrium, and the spiral — forever ascending — whispers of evolution, endurance, and grace under the vast, breathing sky.
